In class we discussed
"Hills like White Elephants", yet another story that was very odd. It
began with two characters at a train station drinking beer, this guy in the
story is trying to talk the woman into getting an "operation”, which we
came to conclude is an abortion in class. The woman throughout the story seems
very worried whether to go through with the operation and if the man which I
thought was her boyfriend. I also came to the conclusion she seems to be the man’s
mistress because of the way the man did not want her to keep the baby. There is
also a possibility since they like to travel a lot he didn’t want to bring a
baby into the world. There are so many questions that the author did not answer
and he left you hanging to decide for yourself. My thoughts on this story were
choosing between life and fatality. The "girl” as they referred to her in
the story was very squeamish in making a decision because the man in the story
is very authoritative and controlling. The white hills are dark and have no
life and the white elephants are full of life is what I felt they were trying
to describe in the story. I would hope she chose the white elephants and chose
life but we will never know due to the author leaving us to make the decision.

In class we talked about the story "A Good Man is Hard To Find", I enjoyed reading it because it had an odd story line. It all started with a family going on a vacation and the main charcter is the grandmother in the story. The grandmother comes off as a self centered lady and very rude. The family has an accident and the decide they need to look for help. It ends up where the three people to stop one of them is the misfit and the grandmother recgonizes him. The misfit kills the grandson and her son and he ends up killing the grandmother also. The story was odd but it kept the readers interested, other than everyone dying in the story it was good. I enjoyed in class how we talked about other ways that the story could have ended if the grandmother wasnt as selfish.

About me
Hello, I am Jessica Fee and am in my sophomore year at Richard Bland. I am going for my nursing degree and stride to work in the pediatrics unit one day. I enjoy volunteering and helping out around my community, my passion is volunteering through 4-h. I did compete in a few pageants and won the title Miss Chesterfield County Fair 2011 and I went on to Miss Virginia Fairs, I placed top 10 in a wheelchair. To back track I was in a bad car accident while I had my title of miss chesterfield county fair, only 3 weeks out until my miss Virginia pageant. My brother and I are "walking blessings" as my mom would say somebody ran us off the road in December of 2011 and fled the scene. That night I broke my femur bone, which I may add is the biggest bone in your body. I broke my ribs, fractured my sternum and punctured a lung all very painful things. My brother on the other hand has a brain injury, he had to learn to walk and talk again. Luckily he recovered now and he is doing very well and became an EMT to help other people. I work at a group home with mentally handicap people and I love every minute of it.
